Country singer/songwriter sensation, Parker McCollum – better known as The Gold Chain Cowboy – is making history this month with the release of his 2022 Fan Club NFT on MusicFX, the latest NFT platform from CurrencyWorks(CWRK), an award-winning developer of NFT marketplaces. Parker is the singer-songwriter behind the platinum-selling single ‘Pretty Heart’ and has just released his latest music video, ‘Falling Apart’ from his acclaimed hit debut album Gold Chain Cowboy.
Korea IT Times interviewed Cameron Chell, co-head of MusicFX and Executive Chairman and CEO of CurrencyWorks to learn more about its mission to provide music fans and collectors with the ultimate consumer-focused NFT collectible experience.
How did the partnership between CurrencyWorks and MusicFX come to fruition? what void are they trying to fill?
CurrencyWorks has been working on commercializing NFTs for some time now, after we quickly identified that this was not only a great financial tool, but also something that could be adapted for use within consumer markets, and therefore gain a much wider appeal outside of those interested in cryptographic transactions. The Company’s board encompasses people with a wide range of backgrounds and that led us to become involved in the film industry with Enderby Entertainment, and the formation of VUELE the world’s first NFT film distribution platform.
It was while we were working on VUELE that we were introduced to Billie-Jo Aasen and Jake Crownover at Crown & Ace who were looking at how NFTs could be used within the music industry. They wanted to do something innovative rather than just put songs on an NFT. We thrive on such challenges and so MusicFX was born.
What we intend to do, is through close collaboration with each artist we partner with, is build a community of fans that want to support that singer or band, and in return, the artist will have a direct and exclusive channel in which to express their gratitude for that support with one-of-a-kind experiences and content. These will be interactions facilitated through NFTs to build engagement outside anything that social media is able to offer… and it’s all driven by the artist themselves.
It seems music NFTs have gone mainstream. What makes this current launch with Parker McCollum different or special?
The music industry was one of the first to recognize the potential NFTs have as a revenue generator, and how exclusivity can be ensured through the technology behind it. However, we felt that the industry wasn’t really recognizing the versatility of that technology. There is so much more that can be done than releasing special edition albums or songs in a limited run of NFTs for fans to collect. Singer/songwriter sensation Parker McCollum will be breaking new ground through MusicFX, with what we believe is the first-ever membership fan club NFT.
How did you get Parker McCollum to sign on as the first artist to launch his fan club on MusicFX?
Parker is a huge rising star in the country music world, so we’re incredibly proud he has chosen MusicFX to launch his fan club membership NFT. Crown & Ace has a massive list of contacts in the music industry. They know everyone you need to know, which led us to Parker’s team. Parker wanted a way to celebrate the support he’s had from his fans, the help they’ve given him on his road to success. Our vision of what a music NFT platform should be resonated with that, and the rest, as they say, is history.
What is the role CurrencyWorks plays in the partnership? who are the other partners?
CurrencyWorks is an established leader in blockchain technology with an award-winning history of creating bespoke NFT platforms. With MusicFX we have two primary roles – to provide the expertise that makes MusicFX a reality, and to take the artist’s vision of their relationship with their fan base and to translate that into an NFT.
How can someone purchase one of Parker McCollum’s membership NFTs and how many NFTs are being minted for the initial launch?
Anyone interested in purchasing a Gold Chain Cowboy Club Black Card can do so by directly going to the MusicFX website. The first 1,000 to sign up will receive special Signature Edition memberships. Any remaining Signature Black Cards will be open to all, along with the block of regular Black Card NFTs. Membership has been capped at 10,000, so that’s the total number of NFTs we will be minting.
What else comes with the membership?
Each 12-month membership will provide opportunities to access private jam sessions, a chance to meet Parker at select events and concerts, receive special merchandise and other collectibles that will be made available. We have a lot of really cool ideas, but I don’t want to give too much away at this point, as ultimately it will be all about Parker revealing his plans through the MusicFX community he’s building.
Will there be other offerings besides what MusicFX is doing with Mr. McCollum? What does the future hold for this platform?
That’s a great question! I’m super excited about what MusicFX is going to do in the future, and I genuinely believe we will disrupt how the industry views NFTs and what they can deliver on both a commercial and personal level. Due to commercial sensitivity, I cannot go into much detail. But Parker certainly is just the start. We always build scalability into our platforms, so growth is systemically part of what we do. MusicFX is in conversation with a number of leading names, and when the time is right, we hope to share this exciting news with you.
